On the 27th of June Our Green Schools flag Will Be Risen And Will Be Risen By Dale Treadwell. We Will Also Have a Fancy dress day. It Will Be For Free And We Must Have Something Connected With Biodiversity,(e.g. A bug)or wear a green shirt. We know it will be a good day.
First good news, We got our green schools flag! Now Because we got that done, I thought on getting a Blue peter badge. If you don't know what a blue peter badge is press Click Here. I am applying for the green blue peter badge. Green badges are awarded for sending in letters, pictures and videos that are about the environment, conservation or nature. The show Blue Peter is on CBBC on Thursdays. Yesterday the roof was put on the Bug Hotel. Our friend Dale Treadwell gave us advice to do this. The generosity of Ms. Holmes meant that we were able to get felt to use for the roof. The felt that she got us was at a perfect size. The roof will get more visitors by making the hotel warmer and by keeping the rain off the Bug Hotel. Below are pictures of the roof going onto the Bug Hotel. Today, we went to the Bug Hotel and, there was a swarm of insects waiting to be found. We found today, a white centipede, two spiders:1 bloodsucker and 1 regular one, a woodlouse and a slug plus another two of Wendy's cousins. We will write up some information on the insects found and add images to the gallery. We want help to identify a white egg we found in the bug hotel. The image of the egg is below. It is a sticky egg so we need you to leave a comment of what egg it is. We appreciate all help. We will be off for two weeks on Friday,so we will be updating in two weeks from Friday. Also we are adding a search bar very soon. Dale Treadwell visited the school today and we were delighted that he was able to visit the Bug Hotel. We have written a report on Dales visit and his exciting ideas for our School Bug Hotel on the website. To see this report click HERE Tomorrow we will have a very famous visitor Dale Treadwell from RTE visiting the school. He will be giving talks on Biodiversity. If he has time we hope tht he will visit the Bug Hotel!
History was made in Scoil Na Mainistreach today! Our outdoor classroom was used by a class for the first time. Ms Manns 4th class were the first to use it. They made their own biodegradable pots and planted seeds in them! Well done boys and congrats on being the first class to use the outdoor classroom! 4th class boys have been busy recently composing songs about biodiversity! Inspired by the desire to win a 5th Green Schools Flag bands are forming and songwriters are puttting pen to paper to welcome Benny the Bug in song. The first entry was received today 25th February and the song can be heard HERE Tomorrow is the closing date for entries for the story writing competition. We are delighted for this many competition entries. We would like to thank all the boys and teachers as well as their Mums and Dads for allowing the boys to type or write their stories.
As promised the outdoor classroom was built on Friday. It contains one large desk, benches for pupils to sit on, a black board for the teacher to write on and a Bug B&B. One thing we didn't expect to be included was a Bird House. It has been put on the window above Ms Holmes's classroom window. Inside in the bird house is a camera that will record footage of the birds inside. Once again we are very thankful to Kildare County Council for giving us the Outdoor Classroom and we look forward to using it in the future. |
